Located in the very heart of Puerta del Sol, Hotel Europa is one of Madrid’s most iconic urban establishments. With a constant flow of guests and an uninterrupted daily operation, the building required a modernization capable of elevating guest comfort, improving energy efficiency, and upgrading its technical systems — all without interrupting hotel activity. For this challenge, the client relied on FLULLE as a global partner, able to integrate construction, installations, and project management within a highly demanding urban environment.
From the outset, we approached the project with our characteristic philosophy: technical rigor, operational flexibility, and a collaborative mindset that enables progress even in complex conditions. The hotel needed to remain open throughout the works, and its location in a protected architectural area with restricted traffic required extremely precise planning. All interventions were executed in phases, allowing the building to stay fully operational and ensuring that every action generated immediate value.
The final result enhances the guest experience, refreshes key areas of the hotel, and — most importantly — optimizes the building’s performance thanks to a comprehensive upgrade of its thermal systems. This technical intervention, delivered with precision and carefully coordinated with hotel operations, became one of the project’s core pillars.

The installations project focused on optimizing and upgrading the HVAC and domestic hot water (DHW) systems serving Hotel Europa. As the building is protected and the intervention did not involve a full rehabilitation, the upgrade was defined as a partial reform, designed to significantly improve energy performance while respecting architectural constraints.
Main actions performed
Replacement of the existing chillers with two new air-to-water heat pumps, using eco-friendly refrigerant (GWP < 750), to serve the building’s HVAC system.
Installation of two high-temperature aerothermal heat pumps:
Removal of the existing natural-gas autonomous unit, eliminating an outdated and less efficient energy source.
Replacement of existing circulation pumps with variable-flow pumps, improving energy efficiency and system performance.
Installation of a four-pipe distribution system for fancoils and air-handling units, enabling simultaneous demand for heating and cooling.
Replacement of existing fancoils with new four-pipe units, each equipped with two-way motorized control valves for precise regulation.
Installation of two VRF/VRV variable refrigerant flow systems to serve the laundry area and the gym, both of which have specific thermal loads.
Upgrade and modernization of the centralized control and regulation system, integrating all new equipment and enabling more accurate temperature and energy-use management.

The intervention carried out by FLULLE not only modernizes a historic hotel but also prepares it for the future with more efficient systems, improved comfort, and optimized day-to-day operations. It is a clear example of how we work: integrating construction, technical expertise, logistics, and service under one flexible, collaborative, detail-driven approach. A complex challenge transformed into a reliable, high-value solution — ready to perform for years to come.
A client always wants to feel supported. A good friend is always happy to do so.
At FLULLE, we offer our clients continuous support even after construction is complete. This is why our FLULLE Facility Services (FFS) division makes perfect sense, providing continuity for each project by taking care of everything they might need.
On this occasion, FFS is handling the comprehensive maintenance of all facilities, as well as providing support and response to any intervention that may be required.
